Yea. Very true, esp. in India. Max women these days are into high-earning jobs but like a woman replying to this (The Mrs) said, its double-greedy-standard.

My husband and I have a verbal contract that I will stay home with the kids for a few more years. The kids should not have to lose out on that benefit because of a divorce. Also, women still earn less than men do so it's hardly equal between the sexes. Why do guys like you think that they should walk scotfree because they decide to leave? Shouldn't a man have to honor his commitments? Women don't realize they are women when they divorce, it's when guys open their mouths and say stupid things like this question. Does that answer your question?

I have never asked for a penny from my ex, I always earned more than he did anyway, so I don't need his money, I am one of those women who can proudly say I PAY MY OWN WAY. I can understand a woman asking for money if the couple had kids together, so the kids don't suffer because the parent can't afford to feed them.

Not all do, some are very vair in a split.
I think such a quality is human nature more than woman nature. Generally speaking, people want equal treatment unless they can have preferential treatment. You see the same example in racial issues, cultural issues, you name it. People want to be treated as equals, unless they can benefit from some special treatment. It's hypocritical, but challenging it makes you look like the bad guy (racist, sexist, etc.) in such cases.

because those that are eligible for maintenance are those with children, who have usually had to either give up their jobs or at least cut down their hours to look after the children. They've suffered a loss of earning power because of being married, that's why. It's only fair they should get maintenance because they no longer have the man's income to supplement their reduced income!

People have evolved to conserve their energy and if they find an easy way to get what they want or need they will take advantage of it. Women have a fairly easy way to get a boost in their income after a divorce. It would be foolish to not take advantage of it. Please note I never said it was fair, just that its human nature to try and get something for nothing.

If you earn less money than her or she works and you don't, then she has to pay you. And it is really for long enough that the party receiving the money can stand on his or her own feet again. We do have to understand the basis of these laws and be fair.

It's called changing your mind. Just like when men often want to get married and promise to be faithful, but then they end up also wanting another woman on the side. Hmmm. How could that happen?

Women only want equality when it is easy or it benefits them. Make something a little hard for them and the first thing you will hear is "I can't do that cause I'm a woman."

Well, lets see, normally it is the man's fault that they are going through the divorce, so why not make him remember that he screwed up. It is not about needing the man's money, it is about throwing back in his face at every opportunity that he is a screw up. Oh, and not only that, the man mostly makes more than the woman does, so why not take the extra dough?
