Frank Robinson was not only the first black manager in MLB, but he was also the first black manager in the American League and the first black manager in the National League.
Frank managed the Indians in the AL(1975 - 1977), and he managed the Giants in the NL (1981-1984).

The first black manager in baseball was Frank Robinson. He was not only the manager but he was actually a player-manager. He has gone on to manage other teams as well including the Washington Nationals during their inaugural year. Frank was also "the disciplinarian" of baseball. He actually worked for the commissioner and handed out fines and suspensions for violations such as fighting.
