I need guidelines for a how to paper?

Question

I have to write a how to paper for a training seminar at work. This last time i had to do this was in middle school. As with any type of paper there are guidelines that should be followed, what are they for a how to?

write as though you are explaining the process to a 3rd grader, that's what I do and they always turn out great
