Some piece of evidence that put the issue beyond question and arguement..
Do you think it would make the slightest difference to the middle east for example. Would it stop islamic extreemists?
I'm pretty sure it wouldn't make any, and people would still believe in their Gods. Some would say such evidence already existed. what do you think......

Well Flanders tore up Homer's proof when he became so brainy, he managed to prove the non-existence of God!!!!! Yeah, people would probably still believe in their gods. After all, there is scientific proof (not to mention lots of old bones) that dinosaurs roamed the planet and people still believe in Adam and Eve (and a few animals) being the first on the planet.

Here is the problem : suppose I say to you there is a tiger in the woods and ask you to prove it. You could go to the woods and actually see the tiger, or find tiger hair or tiger droppings. Because it physically exists, it leaves evidence behind. Supposing I say to you that there ISN'T a tiger in the woods and ask you to prove it, how would you go about it? Of course, it is impossible, since no evidence of non-existance would exist. So when godbotherers ask you to "prove there isn't one" they are asking something completely nonsensicle.

So, any deity, be they the God of christianity, judaism and islam, or the gods of other polytheistic religions, leave no evidence of existance behind for good reason. They do not exist.

And on a matter of semantics - people come on here thinking that we atheists "do not believe in god(s)" and this definition is wrong. To not believe in god implies we misguidedly refuse to acknowledge a god which exists, whereas really atheists know it to be a fact that such deities exist nowhere but in the imagination of the believer.

If there was No God and we finally proved it, then people would finally have to start taking 100%accountability for their ignorance and there actions.

Without a God as a scapegoat or Crutch, The faithful would have to start thinking for themselves. No more pre-determinative babblings over God's will or the politics of God's will that allows the Crusades.

No, people will have to deal with the Idea of Humanity's existence as another animal and the project of defining a complete Human moral/ethical code that does not deal only in religious dogmas.

Mankind would then have to move beyond petty jealousies and accept that we either live together in peace or kill each other only because it is human desire instead of God's will.

No more morally religious based laws, but ethical ones. Legal disputes over gay/lesbian rights would go out the door with the Moratorium on stem cells and the debate over evolution will be as dead as the dinosaurs.

IT WOULD BE GREAT!!!

John Lennon would be proud.

Do you really want to forcibly take away what comforts so many people. Look into the eyes of your dying child and tell them that when they are dead there is nothing else, there is no heaven or happy grandpa god waiting to take away the pain of their kemo. Tolerance is is appropriate whether or not you are tolerated by the ones you are tolerating. Consider this quote from our American history. "To those whom much is given, much is expected." Consider your ability to live in the face of death without belief in god to be a gift. Others are not that strong. Try not to hate on the fearful and the weak, it lessens your stature and makes you week in turn. Be a compassionate example for those who need a name and a reason and an excuse to do good.

As for extremism, other than killing them all, which is how i assume you would ideally like to handle it. It seems even sometimes to me the only way to protect ourselves is to be unflinchingly absolute, what else can we do? I say allow every one their beliefs but allow no one the ability to choose them for others. SO in essence we should keep doing exactly what we are doing. It is just a shame they sell their lives so cheaply. It kills me to think their lives mean so little they would strap dynamite to themselves. Who knows what some of them could have contributed to the world if given love, support, opportunity and knowledge.

However strong the evidence might be, you can't irrefutably prove that God (or Father Christmas, or Spiderman for that matter) doesn't exist. And, to a degree, as long as there is a base of belief, they do exist, even if only metaphysically.

first of all your whole premise is incorrect - you can never completely prove a negative - but you can prove its opposite - so your real question is suppose that there was irrefutable evidence that evolution is true ...

anyway to answer your question - NO it would have no effect on the middle east - if you're a extremist you could not be convinced that you were an extremist - let alone believing in something that doesn't exist.

Probably not. Some people would be convinced, but most would simply think it was propaganda and lies. Considering how much real propaganda and lies are floating around today, you can hardly blame them! But I'm a Christian, and if you can cook up some irrefutable evidence that there is no God, I'd become an atheist in a second. But it's not happening.

Then I think it would lead to so many other questions about the origin of man and other questions as to "how" so many things yet go unexplained. So when this time really comes I will tend to take the moment much as it is... another claim of man. Just like his claims of the innocent tried as witches, gods of all types, and weapons of mass destruction, that deceit is a necessary evil, and money makes the world go round. I will rely on that which has always pulled me thru and that is my undying faith in a higher power who's true name I am not aware of but can always call on at any time...and I choose to call him GOD no matter any claims of man.

I think any normal person who is intelligent and thinks logically, knows there is no god.
how can you really belive that this creator made our world and watches over each and every one of us and hears our prayers (that bit is certainly not true), and when you die you join him in the light.

If it was true why does nothing that happended in the bible happen now? why does he not speak to anyone, we do we just have to have faith that he is real?? why can't he just show his self for crying out loud, he might stop a lot of war and suffering if he did that!!.

On the other side I live in hope and while the rest of the world does too (except the extremist's) we all live in hope, I think it would be slightly depressing if know one had any hope, it would be like been told there is not santa clause.

As for the extremist's if there is a hell I hope they burn there, they are not doing this for religous reasons they are doing this because they are evil!

Remember that a lot of violence is carried out in God's name, and a whole lot of it *doesn't* happen because of a belief in God. With irrefutable evidence that there is no God, I think there would be a sharp uprise in violence and the number of suicides worldwide.

And yes, I think that there would remain many groups of fanatics who would continue believing and work ever harder to recruit followers, claiming that the "evidence" was influenced by Satan -- if they believed in Satan, anyway, lol, but you get the idea.
