I'm serious. So many of the posts here are filled with poor grammar and misspelled words. What happened to learning English in school?

It's not just here....it's on Myspace, in music, on TV and in commercials (think of Boost Mobile's "Where YOU at?". How wrong is THAT one?!! ARRRGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!

I agree, it's annoying as hell, and unfortunately we educated people are far outnumbered by ignorant idiots.

I'm an English teacher and try my best to teach, but with all the other influences in people's lives, very few really love grammar, reading, and writing and speaking correctly.

Also, the school systems seem to lower the standards on teacher tests because not many people are eager to be teachers today in much of the USA.

It has nothing to do with school. It has everything to do with the people here. If this forum and the internet existed 10 or 20 or 100 years ago, you would still find the same problem. Some people don't bother to learn good grammar. Some people try and are not good at it. Some people are good at it but just don't care enough to try. Most people here just don't give a crap about their grammar. Nothing that the schools can do about that.

well alot of people don't really care about how they type because it's just a message board but grammar honestly isn't really taught in school. I'm planning to become an english/advertising major and have only really started learning grammar now in preparation for my classes. When my teacher in 12th grade tried to teach me about direct objects and transitive verbs and so forth I was like, "WTF?" and now that I'm starting to learn it I always notice other people's poor grammar. I really wish that schools would have tried harder to teach english grammar because once you get to college and start writing essay things change.

The U.S. has a very poor education system even though it spends more on it than any other country. This is primarily due to the teacher's union which protects incompetent teachers and parents who don't care at all about their childrens education. Consequently we are becoming a nation of ignorant people.

Lots of people don't worry about whether answers posted to an informal forum are grammatically correct.

And some of them actually screw it up intentionally.

And there are some who are morons.

And there are some whose native language is not English.

Relax. It's going to be okay.
