When we had to do the same thing with our company we handed out seedlings that grew in our area because it went with the type of business. Balloons are cheap and great for kids, but for the adults I'd try lottery tickets, chocolate, wine tasting, $10 bills if your budget is $10, they'd remember that. If it's around 4th of July give away flags or something that ties in the holiday the time your opening.

At Walmart, at the Kodak picture maker you can take a picture, in this case one with your business name and info on it and they have a design that allows you to put a calendar on the back of the photo. Maybe you could do something like that to had out. If you need some more help or ideas I would love to help. I also run a gift basket business and would be willing to help you create something fun and unique to had out. Send me an e-mail if you would like.

If in the USA, crisp $2 bills or gold $1 coins - so people see how many show up in the circulation of the town.

hand out something that would be useful and not just eventually thrown away as something free that never got used.

magnets are always useful cause everyone can just put them on the fridge and look at it all the time

key chain bottle openers also useful and everyone likes those

pretty mouse pads are also useful to pass out to local businesses

How about a little cup for desks that holds pens, pencils.... etc... with your bank's logo on it? that way, you'll need a pen to write things down with, and every time, you'll get the promotions you need because your logo would be seen when someone grabs a pen.

What is your spending limit? I think personal day-planners would be a nice one, but they can get pricey. On the other hand it used to be customary to give out a toaster, right?

Have something custom printed at your local business store (Office Depot, OfficeMax, etc.). It'll cost you more, but the item will have your business name or logo on it, so everytime they use it they will think of your company.

Don't skimp on promotions.

Food is always good. Do you have enough time to develop, say, chocolate bars with your bank's name on the packaging?
