The modem has 2 ports on the back. The PC is currently connected on the ethernet port, but there is also a USB port. (Westell 6100 modem) supposedly it has a built in router? I'll be using a KVM switch.

The KVM will be a USB. I incorrectly ordered a PS/2 the first time and had to return it. My keyboard and mouse are USB.

Instead of getting a router, would an ethernet switch work?

no you can not use both ports at once it will confuse the modem and cause it not to work. but if you get a router you can split the connection from the ethernet port and connect them both through that

Maybe, call your ISP and ask them the same question.
If no, you will need a separate wireless router.

"I'll be using a KVM switch." I'm confused, is your KVM switch USB or PS/2? IF PS/2, I don't think the Mac has the correct ports.
