The Wilson Cloud Chamber. Making one is a cool (pun intended) lab project.

Using dry ice to super cool isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol), one can see vapor trails of condensed alcohol vapor captured in a jar against a dark background. The vapor trails are caused by alpha particles passing through the super cooled alcohol gas. Alpha particles are a common background of subatomic particles in the universe.

I suspect your physics teacher could help you find the plans for making a Wilson Cloud chamber in lab if that interests you. I was unable to find them on the web, but I think I got mine from Popular Science back in the 1950's. Worked like a charm, but watch out for the dry ice...it burns.
