OmnisArs - I understand completely what your saying about craftsmanship. As an Interior Designer I can tell you that California is home to the "Fly-By-Night" method of construction!

I would sell interesting and extremely well-made solid wood furnishings, since much of what's available is shoddily made. Since I'm in Southern California, I'd have to do regular shopping trips to New England or parts of the Midwest, since that's really the only place where truly good craftsmanship can be found nowadays.

As for the name, I'd probably give way to my sense of humor. Either call it something suggestive, like "Throbbing Wood," or maybe something dry like "Amish Country Furniture" and have the staff dress up like the Amish but have strong personalities -- chewing gum, cracking bad jokes, etc. Anything to make the place unique and interesting.

By the way, a few weeks ago I found three solid wood barrister bookcases at a New Hampshire store's website. It cost me over $800 to have them shipped to California, but it was worth it -- they're from the 1930s and are exquisite.

Oh, and Aunt Bee, that's a lovely patriotic blouse you're wearing in your picture. Old Glory never looked prettier! But I'm sure that Clara saw it, turned pea-green with envy, and will show up on Wednesday wearing the same blouse AND a matching hat! That woman just HAS to one-up everyone.

It's completely legal, that is called free market now days. But it's not legal if you have an exclusive representation of the clothe you're selling, specially if the store is next to you, in the area that you have the representation. I hope that helps you.

If I opened a store, I would probably be giving music lessons. Therefore I would be selling my experience and time. I might also stock some books, picks, and other supplies of the convenience of my students as well, but that would just be an attempt to influence the quality of their accessories.

Jewelry and chainmail headpieces, along with other things... I had tried 'Eudora's Family Jewels,' but few noticed or laughed. Next, I tried 'A Fantasy in Crystal & Chain.'

Just had too many things going on at the time... but I'll try again. I think I could do better this time. Not so much pressure or stress. ;-)

I would sell my art. some of it are paintings & drawing. Some things are more crafty like folk art. I really don't know what I would call it which is sad because I have really thought about doing this later in life.
