It makes me so angry because when you call up for help (BT, DELL etc etc) they can never even speak english and after they have confused themselves they hang up on you even thought it cost alot of money to get through to them.
They are extreamly rude too so why dont they just have them all in the U.S or U.K? or only employ the ones that can speak english?

People work for less money and hence the company doesn't have to pay them the legal minimum wage eg the UK minimum wage is roughly £5.35 ($10.70) an hour and in india they are paid 200 rupees for a day which is about 2 - 4p a day - it saves the company money and helps the poor countries out economically eg India is the most common country to take this offer up.

And 200 rupees is a LOT of money to them as goods cost less than a penny (1p; 2 cents) eg. sunglasses cost between 10 and 20 rupees (0.01p-0.02p)...

I hope that explains it and wasn't too complicated...

Cheap labor, plain and simple. And it's not just corporations. The Republican National Committee runs it's own fundraising phone banks out of India.

The problem is Business Schools in the US and UK. They don't teach sound business practice, they teach ideology--and a simplistic ideology at that.

"Worker compensation Bad, Executive compenstion Good."

To today's CEO's only the Stock Market matters. How the company actually performs is not an issue for them. They could care less if nobody buys their products twice, as long as they can show enough return per share this quarter to give themselves a bonus.

They don't even care if the company goes bankrupt. Corporate Bankruptcy laws are so favorable that management can sell of their stock before the crash, void the Labor contracts in the Bankruptcy Court, issue new stock to replace the now worthless shares and give themselves a bonus for that--which the courts always approve.

I have to disagree, the dread I have is to end up in a North American call centre...they are the ones who are rude and disrespectful to the customer..I can tell by the accent whether I am going to be treated right..MSN is in India and I have had nothing but amazing service..now Yahoo, I am not sure where they are but they are a disaster to deal with...the reason they are all outsourced is it is too expensive to maintain staff in the North American economy and the corporate greed....In North America they either employ staff at minimum wage without benifits and lose them when sick or make the decision to send the service overseas where the CEOs could care less whether the staff lived or died...Canada has less outsourcing than the US because of the social system but it still happens...one TV commentator believes that we should be sending the corporate jobs overseas because the managers would be better and cheaper...great idea.

Companies do it for the cheap labor. Just a few weeks ago I ordered cable t.v. but was unable to use it. I called "customer service" and got a foreign customer service rep. Same thing with my credit card company, and insurance company. It's sad that this is happening. Many times the customer service rep does not understand how things work in this country which only gets people frustrated. I wonder how much business is lost because of this issue?

It all comes down to the almighty dollar. Companies outsource their customer service, help desk and sales departments to call centres as it is cheaper than investing in the equipment, space and manpower to effectively manage a 24/7 operation such as a call centre. And right now, the most cost effective centres are in Africa and India. Cheap labour.

Customer service is just a sales tool to get you to use their service, it's in style now (like Green building, Hybrid cars, etc). Though, they still don't want to actually deliver any or be accountable for anything...so they outsource it and blame the 3rd party customer service people for any problems.

Genius actually, but dirty.

They can pay people in India way less than someone from the UK or US. It's all about the dollar. It's too bad.
