Would you believe this? (This goes out to smokers only, so if you don't smoke then don't read).
I have just been reading on the internet that officials in California are concerned about the rising number of smokers and that bar and restaurant owners are extending there properties to make smoking zones, to a point where the SZ are far superior to the actual bars and restaurants. God bless the yanks, I knew that they would find a way around this stupid law. And now it's only a matter of time before we do it over here and then we can keep all the non smokers in one place and not be bored silly with there boring conversations and there self righteous views and let this be a lesson to them not to interfere with the people of this country. We don't want dictators here.

"If you don't smoke, don't read" - sounds pretty dictator-ish to me. Hmm, so you think it's okay to kill whoever you want as long as you have a good time? People aren't allowed to drive drunk, and it's the same thing. When you smoke, you're not only at risk of killing yourself (if you were, that would be fine), but also everyone around you. If you want to kill yourself, I can do it for you a lot faster. Preferably with a knife to the throat.

I tell you what, I totally agree with you, and it gives me a ray of hope that one day we will have somewhere to smoke again!

Did you know that in Canary Wharf (London), there are even some outdoor areas that you can't smoke in?!

I was reading an article that said a person who lived with a heavy smoker for 20 years has less than a 1% increased risk of getting cancer. I'm sorry, but I cannot believe that sitting in a bar once a week when someone in another room is going to kill you. The reason the government enforced this ban is not to protect the non-smokers - it's to try to get the smokers to cut down, so that the NHS can save some money. Fair enough. But it won't work! People aren't going to cut down. Come off it.

I think they should have had separate rooms for smoking, with doors that close and lots of windows that actually open. Then everybody's happy. Oh well, whatever, what's done is done.

But yes, I'm totally sick of the self righteous non-smokers. Not that all non-smokers are, of course.

One day the government will introduce a car restriction because of the pollution, and an alcohol ration, due to all the money the NHS wastes on binge drinkers and alcoholics. I'd love to see how the non-smokers react when the government enforces a ban that actually affects THEM! Then we'll have non-drinkers telling them to stop moaning, and people that have been riding a bike to work telling them that they are selfish for using their cars.

I say we all move to France.

I don't believe smoking causes lung cancer, my grandfather died of lung cancer and he never smoked a day in his life and dew to his employment was never around any smokers. and this below which I have cut and pasted into my answer, the part that says "it is proven to reduce lung capacity etc" I have been smoking for 40+ years and I can hold my breath under water long then any of my teenaage and adult children, as far as I'm concerned everyone has cancer in there body and who gets it depends on if something happens in there life that triggers it off. 6 hours ago To Whitelady. The reason there are no positive reports are for the already stated reasons and also I don't think smoking is actually a positive. It smells, it is proven to reduce lung capacity etc but if you read serious medical journals there have been no studies that prove the cause.

I believe it. I live in the South West and our local news has done a lot of coverage on the smoking ban and, as far as I can see, every pub, bar, and club that has the space has created a lovely outdoor area for smokers. These have heaters for the winter and shelter from the rain .. the only condition by law being that they are open sided apparently. They look like far nicer places to be than inside dark, stuffy rooms so, SMOKERS, let's make sure all those wimpy non-smokers are NOT allowed in our splendid new areas!! hehehe

Ha ha. I'm not a smoker and I read this anyway. :-P

Seriously, don't get TOO excited. California is a rather exceptional place. Those non-smoking places are still all outside, and the weather there is fantastic. It hardly ever rains or gets too hot or cold. If you're a Brit, this plan of action is not going to help much when it is always raining. If you really want to avoid us self-righteous non-smokers, you'll have to stay home.

I don't mean that as an attack on you as a smoker. I could care less if you smoke or not. Just making a point about the California loophole, in case you hadn't considered this.

My sister recently moved to California, and said they're some of the most hateful (when it comes to smoking), anti-smoking people she's ever encountered. Then again, most Californians are known for being weird anyway. All this anti-smoking, smoking ban BS is exactly that...BS. Non-smokers say they have the right to breathe clean air. This is true, but then these same people go outside with no sunblock (skin cancer, anyone?), grill on charcoal grills, drink Diet Coke like it's going out of style, drive cars that pollute the air, etc. They're getting rid of the dreaded second hand smoke that *may* cause cancer, but they're not getting rid of anything else than has been proven to cause it. If you're going to pick on something that can cause cancer, pick on EVERYTHING that can cause cancer. Unless a person lives with a smoker, they have NO right to be so dickish about banning smoking in public places. I seriously doubt many of them are truly concerned for their health--they just don't like the smell of it. Well you know what Mary--walking into the mall once a week and having to pass someone smoking outside is NOT going to cause you cancer. Hell, eating in a restaurant once or twice a week and sitting clear across the restaurant from the bar/smoking section won't cause you to get cancer, either. What the hell is wrong with these people?

Im sorry, I am not a smoker, but I am answering because I agree with you. I have never smoked, but do believe they have taken this law too far. I dont think that pubs and restaurants should have banned smoking, I believe that seperate areas should be built because it is tradition that has been going for thousands of years, people have a Meal, pint and a cigarette. If you dont want to breath in smoke, then dont go to the pub in my opinion. If they built seperate rooms/areas then surely everyone would be happy. (except of course the real anti smoking PC campaign who would never be happy).

I couldnt give a **** if u smoke or not sweetheart as long as u poison yourself in private. Stick that up your anus and light it ( in case u dont know where your anus is, its that hole u speak out of)
