You will need the drivers for your specific printer, so if you don't have the disk you'll need to download the drivers from the manufacturer. If you're not sure how to do that, just edit your question to include the make and model of printer you own, and someone here will be willing to track the driver down and post the link.
Once you have the printer driver saved, usually as a compressed folder, just open it up and save all the contents to a regular folder. (I usually just create some crap folder on the desktop to hold the files, then delete it when I'm done.) it's simply a matter of going into "Printers and Faxes" in the control panel, then hit "File" and "Add Printer". The next series of steps varies depending on what version of Windows you're running, but it's pretty intuitive and generally impossible to screw up if you take the time to read everything and pay attention. When you get to the section asking you to insert the disk, just direct it to that folder containing the files you downloaded. Windows will pretty much take care of the rest.

I have a Panasonic Dot Matrix, it works great and all I need. The last time I had Windows 98 and went to the Support Website and downloaded the Driver. When I did a full install of Windows 2000-Pro they no longer had Drivers. I thought, "Dang computer companies will do anything to keep people buying". So, I copied the 98 Drivers to try them. When I connected the printer a box open "Found new Hardware" walked me through to a list of drivers and installed. So, Windows did it all and I did not need the drivers from Panasonic. ;-)

Depending on the brand , you may need to install the drivers BEFORE you connect the printer to your PC.
Go to the manufactures web site and look up the model to download the full driver suite. Run the install and follow the prompts. During the install you will need to ignore the Windows Found New Hardware Wizard as it will conflict with the manufacture install.
Good luck,

Most windows based pc's will automatically detect that new hardware in installed and prompt you to install the drivers from a list. If you dont see the drivers, you can go to the printer MFG website and probably find it there.

Older printers have drivers that are equipped into dwelling house windows. The make and variety of the laptop would not make any distinction. whether you had an HP laptop, you nonetheless might in all possibility % the disk basically to place in drivers. once you're procuring a sparkling printer, you will possibly might desire to place in something. that's distinctly lots the simplest situation ever, so why no longer?
