When Thomas Kuhn wrote The Structure of Scientific Revolutions (1962), he coined the term Paradigm Shift to describe a change in basic assumptions within the ruling "theory of science" a term that is different that his idea of "normal science."

Thus, Kuhnian Scientific Paradigm Shifts would include:

--Maxwellian electromagnetic worldview v. Einsteinian Relativistic

--Newtonian physics v. Einsteinian Relativistic

--The acceptance of Plate tectonics as the explanation for large-scale geologic changes.
