So Prince Edward and Sophie are about to present the Queen with her eighth grandchild. Their last child is titled Lady Louise, yet Prince Charles' sons are Princes and Prince Andrew's daughters are Princesses (I am not sure about Princess Anne's children) - why is this?

Lady Louise is actually a legal Princess, but her parents decided that she should be styled as the daughter of an Earl (which she is as well) in order to maintain more privacy. The only grandchildren of a monarch that are prince(sse)s are children of sons of the sovereign. Anne's children are not a Prince and Princess, because they are children of a daughter of the sovereign.

Children take their title from their father. So Princess Anne's children are not titled, because their father isn't. Prince Edward and Sophie chose to have their child use the title of an earl's daughter, even though she is technically a princess.

Princess Margaret's husband, Anthony Armstrong-Jones, was made Earl of Snowdon by Her Majesty. So her children, Viscount Linley and Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones take their titles from him, even though their mother was of much higher rank.

Children of male-line descendants (I.e., Charles, Andrew, and Edward) have the right to Prince or Princess titles. Anne's children, as female-line descendants, are not prince and princess. Edward's children have the right to those titles but he and his wife chose not to use them.

i think of lots will remember on the desires of the female that Prince Harry marries. She might experience that using fact the titles are coming upon accession of Prince Charles that she could purely as quickly wait. they might have titles as toddlers when you consider that Prince Harry will positively be made a Duke while he marries. Like Prince Edward, the father and mom might experience that it particularly is greater undemanding for their toddlers to strengthen up without being addressed as Prince and Princess. --- The arguments approximately "restricting the royal relatives" do no longer make lots experience consequently, because it particularly is a question of "while" they get their titles, no longer "if" they get their titles. --- there is, although, the very small probability that QEII will outlive her son Charles. consequently, i think of while William is King he will provide the titles to his nieces and nephews. I evaluate this question approximately titles a minor one that the royal relatives will face. a greater question isn't any rely if or no longer the letters patent that created the Duke of York might desire to be changed so as that Beatrice can substitute into the Duchess of York. If no longer, then possibly the 2d son of William (if there is one) will substitute into the hot Duke of York.

It was Princess Anne's choice not to have her children carry a title. I think they would be forever grateful too. They can be themselves and mix with us commoners more easily.

It has to do with who is next in Line to ascend the throne once the Queen dies or abdicates. Charles being the heir to throne means his first born William will be next in Line for the throne making him a prince as for Harry if William dosen't take the throne after his father then the job falls on him. So they are princes. Edward is fourth in Line behind Charles and has been given a title such as Duke of whatever. His children are called Lady Louise and according to what the new baby is it will either be Lord or Lady. Princess Anne is called the Princess Royal and her children are also called Lord if it is a boy or lady if it is a girl lady. She is a Princess because she was second in line after Charles for the throne. If Charles had not married and had children then she and her children would be next in line for the throne.

it would have to deal with the eldest grandchild being the heir to the throne and goes down the line and the lineage of the family.
take princess di (may she rest in peace), she was a lady before she married charles. when they divorced, she still held on to her title as "princess" but lost the title as "hrh" (her royal highness....the queen would be "hrm" - her royal magesty)
