I had not noticed a sudden change? Over the last year or so they have dropped quite a bit.

1. LCDs hit a price point where sales snowballed. A lot of people saw that it was worh investing the the (very high) cost of making LCD panels, now ther is a lot more supply.

2 Same thing happened with LCD TVs. This pushed the supply of panels even higher. LCD TV panels are probably a little cheaper than the equivilent PC monitor, but the profit is probably a little less, so neither one is squeezing the other for supply of panels.

They're becoming more and more common and more companies are putting out LCD monitors. Also, more people are opting for the bigger widescreen monitors so the standard size ones have dropped in price.

More production to meet demand. as more companies manufacture them. Like with any other product the prices are based on supply and demand. Look at gas for example when production is good prices come down when production is low prices go up.

Like any technology , when it fost comes out its expensive cause the manuafacturing is costly.....as designs and manufaturing are catching up it becomes less costly to produce....alot of the tech for LCDs now are outsourced to those obscure foreign coutries...

They came down cause other copycat companies backengineered the lcds and began making more.....

the more you have , the less it;s worth...

When Vista was announced to be released, all peripheral manufacturers geared up for an expected increase in sales. Well..Vista was somewhat of a disappointment in sales and there is a huge surplus of peripherals (including computers and laptops). This resulted in more inexpensive equipment as manufacturers are trying to dump their inventory.
