I'm not a racist but the guards seem to be making a lot of extra work for themselves by doing this.

Do you think they should just stop checking people the don't "look" like terrorists? What's to stop a terrorist from donning a "gran" disguise"? Gray wig, thrift store baggy dress and sweater, shopping bag containing a bomb with some knitting wool on top...

Because old grans are apt to be distracted sometimes and a terrorist could easily plant something in their bags. Besides, just think of this scenario: an old gran is terminally ill and terrorists offer her an enormous amount of money (for her needy family) in order to blow herself up. It's unlikely, but not inconceivable, that an old gran might be tempted.
Besides, we live in a society where we are all supposed to be treated equally, old grans or otherwise. I had to hang on to this thought when the authorities at Ben Gurion airport spent an hour interrogating me and searching me, along with an equally innocuous and unlikely looking Japanese gentleman.

No, they are just doing there job. If they didn't search everyone equally, like just giving "grannies" the go ahead would be a form of discrimination against everyone else.

Besides, there is now way to tell by looking a person whether or not they may be a terrorist...a likely disguise to throw them off would be a granny or a mother with a baby or children with bombs strapped to them.

Suppose someone decided to drop a bomb in a purse of a grandma knowing she wouldn't be checked? How would you feel then? Or switch bags on her so she is carrying a bomb and not her purse?

Terrorist try to do what they can to fit in. They might go so far as to sticking something in grandma's bag when she isn't looking.

.... because "you cant judge a book by its cover." - that saying works both ways. Usually the "most unlikey," are the ones you have to worry about. besides, they have to check EVERYONE. it would be unfair, to pass some thu on the basis of age.....

Terrorist do not care who they kill and would have no problem sending explosive via an elderly or a child.
