Do you leave NO tip? or just a LITTLE tip?

And what kind of "bad service" would justify each one?

well i did this once at a not bizzy apple-bees once i took them 20 min to get us water and take are order then 45 min to get the food to the table and no refills in between so i left a note that said no tip i am and applebee quality control person and i will be call the owner of this restaurant when i get back to the office. then handed the person the note and walk out the door.
i remember looking back at the employs and all of them had a worried look on there face so to stick it to i flip open my cell phone and open the door to my car and drove away.

Depends on how bad the service is. Usually just a little tip cause i think they deserve at least something for the work they did. If they don't put forth the extra effort, they don't get the extra tip. For bad service i'll tip 15%, i usually tip 30% and in some cases for really really good service i have been known to tip 40 -50%, but thats very rare. Things that would justify "bad service" would be:
- Not coming back to check to see if everybody's food came out ok
- Having to wait forever for a refill on my drink
- Having to continuously ask for stuff that goes with your meal, i.e. steak sauce, ketchup, steak knife if eating a steak, extra napkins if eating stuff like ribs.
- Unfriendliness or bad attitude
- Messing up the order in a major way (small accidents happen but major ones should be avoided)

Depends on how bad the service is at the time.
One restaurant - the waitress didn't come back until we were completely done our meals. No tip.
Another restaurant - we tried to get the waitress's attention but she was too busy for us. No tip.
Another time - the table beside us treated the waitress very badly - She didn't deserve it. It wasn't her fault but they kept harassing her until she had to get someone to help her. I left her a huge tip.
Service is the key. I even tip the people at Tim Horton's if I get good service. If it's fast and correct, they get a tip. If they don't give good service, then no tip. I go to Tim Horton's so often that some of them remember me and are very nice to me, so I give a tip to them.
It all comes down to service. The smile, the remembering the order, returning to see if there is anything else they can get you. If they do all this I give very good tips.
I remember my Mom leaving a dime for a girl once, because service was so bad and thought the dime would tell her that she wasn't very good. She probably thought we were just cheap.

Little tip. I very seldom leave NO tip. I'm generally a good tipper, usually tipping 20%, but if I get bad service they'll be lucky to get whatever loose change happens to be in my pocket. I understand what it's like to be in that industry and I know it's rough, so I tip well, but if a waiter or waitress is not feeling well or has an attitude, they should just stay home that day because I don't really care about their problems. I've got my own issues and it's their job to create a warming and welcoming ambiance for me, not the other way around and that is what they get tipped for.

I frequently get bad service...forgetting drink refills, taking forever with our food (even though everyone else the same server is serving has been eating long before us), bringing the wrong food even though it was a fairly simple order, bringing the soup and the salad with the dinner rather than before it, and taking forever to bring the check (I have two small children that are antsy after they eat...that's a no no).

When I receive good service, I tip about 30%. When I receive lousy service, I still tip, but only like 10%.

That always depends for me. If it's the weekend and the restaurant is packed I can totally understand as I used to be a waitress and knew what it felt like to have your entire section fill up at once. BUT (and this is a big "but") even on a busy night, you still have to at least LOOK like you're trying to keep everyone's glasses full and make sure our food is alright.

However, I have been to restaurants where it was practically deserted and got the worst service ever. When that happens, I NEVER tip. Because, like I said, I know what it's like to work in the food industry. When it was a slow day, I'd start up conversations with my tables.

i'll at least leave 10% because they really dont get paid that much. i used to be a server and i was good at it...i gave great service to every customer who sat down and i loved to make them laugh...there are just some people who, iguess, think we have money thrown at us while on our shift and don't leave a tip at all. but i digress. the service you recieve is not always the servers fault, there are sometimes complications in the kitchen and it can delay time on the arrival of food. on the other hand there are indeed people who are servers that shouldn't be around people, we call them uh psycho, who just think that everyone is against them so they instantly throw attitude at the customers...i'll usually leave a note with my ten percent...like "have a better day tomorrow and continue to be an @$s today, have fun not getting a tip from others" or something on those lines

I usually leave a minimum tip--10%, for bad service. These people usually work only for tips as pay.

I leave no tip if the service is bad. I will justify it if the waiter or waitress does not return to ask if you need anything else. Also, if when you ask for something they forget to come back and if their tone of voice sounds rude to you.

Since I'll follow in my sister's footsteps, we'll leave a little tip at the very least.
Unless the service was THAT horrible.
