Yes we will pay much higher taxes and so will big business. It will add another inefficient bureaucracy within the government.

That the candidate is pandering to her/his audience.
I don't think any candidate has a fully-formed plan for Universal Health Care.
Depending on how it is organized, there is no reason why it couldn't be managed by a not-for-profit firm (I hesitate to say, like the Post Office).
As someone who will be paying nearly $900 a month for an individual health plan as of August 1, I welcome the day when insurance costs are reduced. That said, my one-week stay at a Boston hospital merely for non-invasive testing cost over $21,000. Thus, I know that Blue Cross Blue Shield can never possibly recoup all the money that has been expended on my behalf since this was not my first hospitalization and probably won't be my last. Since the expectation is that I will live for another 40 years, don't waste your time doing my possible health cost numbers. Just know they will be very high.
There is no question that our entire healthcare system needs to be overhauled in order to provide services for all citizens at a reasonable cost. We could start by revamping the malpractice system since that alone adds billions of dollars to the costs.
Look at every candidate for his/her record of accomplishments. Promises often cannot be kept once the elections are over.

Higher taxes will be a guarantee. Employers being exempt...that's a good point, but I don't know if they'll be exempt and Yes the government will get bigger.
Universal Health care is another form of SOCIALISM and they are parroted by libs, the same ones that don't want the government telling them what to do.

higher taxes, probably double income tax rates, just look at Canada and European tax rates. employers shouldn't have to pay for health care. yes, inevitably it will produce bigger government. don't like it, prefer government subsidization.

Socialized medicine. You can depend on a 30% increase in your taxes to fund it. You can also bet on fewer services, longer wait times, and less end of life care. You will also lose your rights to sue doctors, and nurses and other medical staff as government employees will not be able to be fired. No matter what their job performance is. Incidents such as were found at Walter Reed recently will be the norm, not the exception.
Yes the government WILL get bigger and will now have control over YOUR medical care.

Could mean anything from complete control of health care to private companys offering health insurance that is subsidized by the government....regardless, we already pay health care for everyone....no one is refused treatment...whether a program would cost more or less is still up for debate

It will have to be a supplement to the current medical insurance programs. Higher taxes, certainly. Closing up shop on all the insurance companies? No way that will happen.

It's called "socialized medicine" and it has never
worked wherever it's been tried. If our government
is not already broke, healthcare run by our government
will do it. It's really better for everyone to get to choose
their healthcare program, insurance, and doctors.

We will probably pay higher taxes, but we would also not be getting money removed from payroll for insurance unless we elected too and there would be a significant reduction in co-pays.
Yes it would mean that the govt would get bigger.
I think its about time America completely enters the developed world.
