The Queen mums family name was Bowes-Lyon. Don't think there is any royal as opposed to aristocracy previous history on her side of the family./The Queen's father was King George the 6th ,the husband of the Queen Mother. His father was King George the 5th, Whose wife was Queen Mary. The previous monarchs were Edward the 7th and Queen Victoria. The family history is of German lineage .They are now known as the house of Windsor, but this only dates from the time of the first world war.The name was changed because of anti German feeling in the UK. Before Windsor it was the House of Saxe-Coburg and before that it was the House of Hanover.which takes you back to the time of George the 1st. Before that it was the Stuarts. If you are looking to trace the Royal family back through these houses the Queen Mum 's ancestry will not help you. For a start key in Victoria and take it from there.

Try this link from Ancestry.com for a full family tree: http://trees.ancestry.com/owt/pedigree.aspx?pid=131630370&st=1.
By the way, Queen Elizabeth and I share the same 9th great grandmother through the Queen Mum's side of the family. When I accessed the link that showed "famous ancestors" yesterday, I was really shocked when the Queen's name along with Bill Clinton's appeared! LOL

I am related to Marie Antoinette and have traced my tree all the way back to the year 975 at the moment.
All I did was type in a name on my browser and all the info you need will appear. If you type in Queen Elizabeth II a list of sites will come up who will have all the info you need.
As you get to the 19th century it becomes more difficult as the illegitimate children are not always registered and as most Royalty had 10 or more children, the tree becomes more confusing.
Good Luck
