Unequivocally, by them. Sin is error. It really is that simple. Ever notice how some folks will say " It's a sin the way he/she neglects their car."?To a master mechanic who can see the imminent mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, transmission problems, and operational failures it is a sin. An error in mechanical maintenance procedures. If you want to keep your wheels spinning, Karmic or otherwise, you drive the right way and do the right thing. Less error equals less breakdowns. Simply stated: "The proof is in the pudding."

Both, really.

From a Christian standpoint, there are times when God punishes the sins of a person or people in retribution for unchecked wickedness - especially when it brings pain to the innocent. (Cain and Abel, Sodom and Gomorrah, the Revelation).

At other times, the greatest punishment is in leaving a person to his or her own sinful devices. Romans 1:22-28

Not for our sins as who is doing the punishing? But I do believe we are responsible for our own actions and if we do something not so nice or hurt someone we should expect some sort of natural consequence. Not being damned to Hell or anything crazy like that.

in my experience i have been punished BY my sins, not for them. i have been punished FOR breaking the law, but i do not believe my crime was a sin nor was it a danger to society. i bring this up only in contrast to things that i have done that i feel are wrong, or in your words, a "sin". these are things i have to live with everyday, they have taken me down to some truly bad places, and i have both done and had done terrible things to others and myself. this is my past. it cannot be erased. i am responsible for the bad things i have done, and i have had to pay a very high price and stand by my actions knowing that they were wrong. by my own doing i have been punished. i did not repent. i am still unsure of just who i am in relation to my own personal sins, at cross purpose with myself, and la de da...you get the picture. it is something to make me cringe.

Just as good is its own reward, so is evil its own punishment. You know you have done wrong, so even if you think you got away with it, even if you really did, you are building up a lot of bad karma, and one day it will come back and bite you on the behind.

Apparently BOTH! Thats right!

and then...

If you aren't extra EXTRA good, your most likely going to be thrown into an eternal pit of flames... or thats what the religious dogmas will have you believe.

My advice would be to drop all the superstitious nonsense and pick up a science book.. as for every action, there is a reaction.

:)

If you are Christen, in the Bible it says in Hebrews 10-17, "And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more."
