They ask you as you walk by them on the street?

They have a sign..."Got a dollar?"

In Seattle they are everywhere....Usually I have a pocket of change....usually for the bus.

For me....I will give change if I am not asked verbally for it, or aggressively for it.

If they are nice...and put some effort into their signs (humor) I will give them some money.

Do you?

Here is a sign that I gave a dollar for:

"Will do 20 push-ups for a dollar" I gave him a dollar and he did 20 good ones.

How about you...."Spare any Change?"

Every once in a while..if I get that "feeling" I will donate, we did a new years eve documentary on homeless in NYC, and I was amazed at some of the people out asking for money, one was a RETIRED government service worker, who said he simply could not live on the 3,000 retirement he gets, not to mention he had rent control housing for back in the day, and is paying 450 for a 2500 apartment!! Yet, he looked like he had not seen a shower in a month...same night an older lady was sleeping in a bank in front of the teller machines, she I don't know, something about her seemed real, I gave her a 200 shawl, and fed her, and gave her 5 bucks, in her eyes you could see it mattered

so sometimes yes, othertimes, I will just buy a sandwich, and yet others I will just keep walking..

I'm in Greece and they are usually gypsies whom usually spit or put a curse on you if you don't give them change. I'm exaggerating a bit.. But they are everywhere and they are known to actually have a lot of money. Then we have Indians at almost every traffic light offering to clean your windshield and most the time they do it and you cant get them to go away. But I only give change to one man on the street and I always make an effort to speak with him (not a gypsy).
He used to play his guitar and sing about the people who passed by.
Then he stopped singing and just played a bit on his guitar.
After that he stopped playing and started getting aggressive.
This is when I realized that his spirits were down and things were obviously worse for him so I started giving him money. Sometimes I buy his meal when I find him eating a fast food restaurant. In the winter I checked to see if he needed anything to keep warm. I always talk to him for at least 5 minutes, of course, he could go on forever since he has few people to talk to.

Pretty hard to tell the difference between a professional beggar and a genuine lost soul. Some of the professionals live in better houses than I do and drive nicer cars. I save my donations for the Salvation army or St V's. Least you know your money isnt paying some lazy b@stards morgage.

i saw a guy holding a sign that said "will clean your house and car for 5 ducks". and he was standing in the middle of a interaction also selling oranges. i wonder how many people got this guy that look like he has not seen a bath in year to clean your house. or is it meaning taking all your stuff like a robber. this is so wrong in so many ways.

they're everywhere in Pittsburgh too. Drive me insane. there's one guy who plays the saxophone. Ill give him a dollar if he plays a good song, but that's about it. I plug my headphones into my ears (even if my batteries are dead) during my lunch breaks and ignore them. sometimes they get right up in my face, then ill say im broke.

I live in a small city and we don't see that here. But if I did see it and had extra change, then yes I would.
