trying to replace a drier on a 1997 dodge dakota.

any auto parts store sells quick disconnect tools they re plastic and come in a set costs less Thain $10 usually make sure the system is empty before opening

to use them push the tool in push the lines together push tool in more Thain pull lines apart

My question is why are you trying to replace the drier?? The reason I ask is from what little information you gave is sounds like you have trouble than a drier. Further, how do you plan on recovering the refrigerant in the system and if by chance you changed your compressor trying to save some money did you flush the system. regardless, good luck.

Make sure before you do take it off that the pressure has been relieved. These lines are usually aluminum so be careful not to round them off. If it is a rubber hose that is crimped to a hard line. You will have to replace the whole drier assembly.

Yes , looks like a round piece of plastic, comes in a set that works on gas lines too, they cost a lot for no more than they are.
