Security is the answer. Especially right now, as we're on a high security alert. Back in the IRA's day, they used to plant bombs in bins. Its another reason you'll not find a bin anywhere on London Underground (except now in the stations up above ground).

The bins were taken away back in the days of the IRA bombs which were going off or sighted in the city and west end, I was working in Oxford street at the time when three bombs were found in bns along Oxford and Regents street.

They started removing public bins in the 80's when the IRA were dropping bombs into them, now due to security reasons with Al Quaeda they haven't been replaced!

Security - terrorists can (and have in the past) put bombs in bins

Security - the IRA used to put bombs in them.

They are always in public areas or by roads so they are too dangerous to leave unguarded.

Probably two reasons.
1. It costs money to empty them
2. They have been used in the past (Warrington) to place bombs

Red Ken - has come up with another hairbrain sheme - that - if he cant charge us more for the rubbish - he will consider the wheelie bins as a vehicle and charge a congestion charge for having a bin.
