To burn the flag is total disrespect to the men and women that have died to give you the freedom you enjoy today.
There is a proper ceremony to burn the flag if you get a chance to witness this you will see the proper way to dispose of the colors.

The whole business about flag burning is very troubled territory. The fact is that your right to burn a flag, or burn anything, should not be curtailed by the government unless doing so is a violation of some OTHER ordinance that has nothing to do with flags in particular (pollution, wreckless endangerment open burning violation, incitement, etc.).

That said, I personally feel that flag burning is a terrible thing to do -but I must agree that where it is done as a form of protest it falls under "freedom of expression." Any effort to make it illegal is completely at odds with the intent of the Constitution.

This also means that flag burning is NOT -and should not be- a "right" anymore than any other single act of expression: singing unpatriotic songs, carrying signs, writing nasty letters to the editor, etc. All those things are covered under the freedom of speech guarantees. And so, flag burning should neither be sanctioned as a right, nor codified as an illegal act. It is just what it is: buring a flag.

All that said, circumstances should be controlling on any enforcement pursuant to the burning. If it is a deliberate act intended to provoke a confrontation, it could land you in jail and with a fine -same as any other such act. If the fire endangers people directly, then the ENDANGERMENT should be dealt with legally.

I hate it that I must take this position, for I love my country and respect and honor the flag. But I love, respect and honor the Constitution most. Tough, unhappy call.

And anyone who burns the flag around me will most assuredly get a reaction.

It's one of the great attributes of democracy. That you have a right to do what you want even if it is burning a flag.

Quoting from the lines of a movie that I absolutely love, that being -The American President.

"You want to claim this land as the land of the free, then the symbol of your country can't just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest." Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then you can stand up and sing about the land of the free."

Tough one. But I think anyone in America who wants to burn an American flag should be shot or deported. What the hell are you doing in this country if you dislike it to the point where you will burn the symbol of the country. Not only that but what a disgrace it is to the thousands of people who have given their lives to protect what that flag represents. I believe in freedom and choice and all that stuff but this issue I can't find any good reason to support.

Not interested in doing it, never have and never will (at least not that I can forsee, but you never know with the way things go in our gov't).

Im all for people being allowed to do it, but its one of those things that by doing it, you have to realize youre alienating half the people youre attempting to communicate with, so it is not a useful form or protest. It would require a very specific situation to be worthwhile, otherwise it would be harmful to your cause, but you have a right to hurt your own cause if you want.

Me personally, I wouldn't do it but if someone else does it is their right. I do believe that most of the people who do it use it as a shock factor to draw attention and not so much as a representation of their rights

It's pointless in my opinion. It hardly makes a dent in the big picture.

I think it an act of poor taste and over zealousness by extremists who act on emotion rather than reason and logic. It harms no one.
