I figure that when it is hotter out the sun's rays are more intense. Therefore, I slather on more sunscreen to protect myself from sun damage. (Tanning is a form of sun damage.)

Also, one can tan from cloudy days as well. Tanning beds are also dangerous as they also use the UV rays.

As for the hottest hours, I've heard 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. I take my walks after four, and I still put on sunscreen just to be safe. Maybe I'm a bit paranoid, but then I'm also white to the point that it's difficult to tell where my kahaki shorts end, and my skin begins.

You will get a better tan if the UV index is high. I think the highest is like 10 or 12. You can check the weather channel or yahoo weather to see what it is in your area. UV rays are very high frequency haves so u can get a tan on a cloudy day too. I dont think u should go without sunblock in High UV index tho!

It all depends on the intensity of the sunlight.
Tanning beds use uv rays. Sunblock blocks uv rays. If its super hot and kinda cloudy, you're probably not going to get as much of a tan (or burn) as when there aren't any clouds.
