Check under Performance in Task Manager. Total physical memory should still be 512Mb. The missing 8Mb could be the minimum allocated for integrated graphics and it is dynamically allocated. Only 8Mb is shared from system RAM when graphics load is just 2D but increases a lot to 64-128Mb when load is 3D graphics.

Your computer is maybe sharing the RAM with the video card. Quite common with built-in video adapters in laptops. So 8Mb of your RAM has been reserved for video.

To meet 512Mb available RAM you need to add more... if it's got a free slot anything over 8Mb will do. If it's not got a free RAM slt then you need to replace 1 stick with the next size up (or more...)

There is normally a small amount of overhead used by the system, that may account for the missing 8mb

your RAM is always in use and if that game requires 512 there is not way you run it. you will need at least 1GB.

some times the minimum is not minimum at all, ram upgrade should do the trick.
