I'd agree that Phantoms by Dean Koontz was his only true horror novel. For some reason, that one really got to me. It doesn't have ghosts, vampires or werewolves, but there is a "creature" that I won't describe since it would spoil it. In his Odd Thomas series (Odd Thomas, Forever Odd, Brother Odd and Odd Hours), the main character sees people who are dead. It is not a horror series, but it is truly wonderful. Dean Koontz has written some really good books. Except for Phantoms, they are not true horror stories, but usually there is something or someone horrible in them. Like you've been told, most of his are truly thrillers, but they keep you on the edge of your seat. Some of my favorites, besides those I've already listed, are Watchers, the Christopher Snow books (Fear Nothing and Seize the Night), The Face, From the Corner of His Eye and The Darkest Evening of the Year. If you enjoy vampires and haven't read it yet, I'd recommend Dracula by Bram Stoker. It's definitely a classic. If you like stories that are supposedly true, I'd recommend you read The Amityville Horror by Jay Anson. That one was really creepy. Going anywhere near that house is on my "never, ever do it" list. Susan Krinard has written some good novels. One of her series of books is about werewolves: Touch of the Wolf, Once a Wolf, Secret of the Wolf, To Catch a Wolf, To Tame a Wolf. You may enjoy them. I hope that helps.
