depends on the motherboard specs, if you can use the higher speed? yes if you can utilize it and it backsteps to suit a lwoer bus speed no its not going to make a diff... almost all newer ram me is backward compatible , example> using pc 2700 @ 400 mhz is a boards max cap,
so i can install pc 2100 pc 1600 or pc 4000 and it will utilize it but at the 400 mhz range only so the memory downsteps to suit the mb specs or if using a slower 2100? it will voerclock it to 400 mhz best bet?> read the mb data sheet and determine tthe best useable ram, and max amts
but with only 1 gig < chuckles umm considered stepping up to 2 gig or even 4? of ddr2 or ddr as vista is slow and a real resource hog and you need in excess of 1 gig to use it... I run 4 gig of 1033 professional grade memory, back when I used 1 gig of off the shelf memory? it was a strain on my pc and me and having more better meory can signifcanly increase your pcs usefull life, and no less cut down on frustration~

In a very technical sense yes your computer will see a bump in speed if your mobo supports 6400 ram. In real world apps your not going to see a very big performance return for your money. If you go thru with the *ahem* upgrade make sure to get two matching sticks of 512MB so you can run them in dual channel mode. I'm willing to bet though that you're not going to see much of an improvement.

You should do yes,.. it'll be marginal though. Things like large programs will load a bit faster,. and take less time to close, also things like video editting will take a little less time, it's not going to be a major step, but still worth it nonetheless. :)
By the way, the Asus mobo you mention is a fine choice; you shouldn't have a bad time using it; perhaps slap in another 1Gb and REALLY enjoy it. :)

yes but only if your board will take the 6400 chip. I would suggest changing the one chip out and adding 2 -1 gig matching chips to better your performance. g-skill is a good brand and pretty cheap as well.

if you are gonna overcolck (dont suggest that on a laptop) go with pc6400 i have never seen a BIG jump while switching between the 2. Like a 8% jump in a benchmark test. Nothing to write home to moms about but i guess it is a boost.

Short answer: Yes, probably.

Longer answer: If you increase your memory bandwidth, then you'll notice a nominal increase in speed, depending on other factors on your system such as processor, types of hard drives, etc.

Hardly, unless you overclock. Difference is more significant in AMD's AM2 processors than in Intel's.

I would have thought that 1gb ram is 1gb ram on any system and would run at same speed, but I'm probably going to be contradicted here.
