Of course! Much like religion, politics and nationality, they should have all gone by the wayside centuries ago, but regardless what people think of themselves, for the most part they are not as progressive as they might think. We live in the dark ages folks, no matter how 'modern' you may consider yourselves to be.
Addendum:
Listen 'tards... you can 'down thumb' me all you wish. Popularity is not a prerequisite for truth. It's well known that I am smarter than any of you here, so your OPINIONS have no validity. I am right and you are all wrong. Thank you, now get back to serving me my food. And yes, I would like fries with that.

The Monarchy is fun. Most Americans are fascinated with it. To us, they are celebrities, very rich people who live by set rules (which are always broken by one or two of them), and are the epitome of class.
We read the stories, wonder who the Princes will marry, watch the wedding of Charles and Camilla unfold, and complain because Camilla lacks the beauty and charm of Diana.
The United States doesn't have royalty. The Kennedys were the closest thing to it. Oh, how we followed the Kennedys back when JFK was president. It was a magical family, with beautiful Jackie, the closeness of the brothers, the rich father, the stern, religious mother....and all those touch football games!
With Diana gone, things were pretty dull for a while, But now, Prince Harry...who was the Spare instead of the Heir...will give us some good stories for the papers.
So, don't knock the monarchy. It has nothing to do with government right now, but just sits there getting richer and providing us all with some interesting newsprint.

Thats just your opinion.
The modern UK has EVERY place for a monarchy in MY opinion. Princess Diana was a truly beautiful lady and a true inspiration. Hers ons will hopefully carry on her good work.
I am proud to be one of the Queen's subjects. She loves this country.
As for this "her sh*t stink" business - god you are so crude!
She doesn't think she is better than you, you obviously have a massive inferiority complex.
Who do you look up to then? "Celeb" trash like Jade Goody and the Beckhams perhaps?
Guess what their "sh*t" stinks too!

Why do you think tourists come to Britain? Because of our heritage, our history and the monarchy. Pretty soon there will be sweet FA of it left it, if some people have their way.
Then we will just be an overcrowded country, with a population that lacks identity, lamenting on what used to be.
I am proud of our Queen, she doesn't think she is better than anyone else, she has dedicated her life to serving the people of this country. I doubt there are many people in this world who could have performed the job so well.

Without the monarchy the UK wouldn't be the same. People come from all over the world to see her. Long live the Queen

Well lucky enough your opinion doesn't count for much!!
The Queen is far better than you, and not as narrow-minded.
Who was being oppressed by the Royal Family? the have had no power for years only a figure-head responsibility.
Try not to blame the sins of the Government onto the Royal family.
The Royal family cost the average UK tax-paying citizen 67p last year.
While generating hundreds of thousands of pounds from tourist income.

More people are in favour of keeping the Monarchy than those who would like to get rid of it. The Monarchy is a symbol of British ness and democracy (we don't have a president). She works hard to promote not only British values, but British business abroad.
If you don't like it, go and live in France. 67p per year. Well worth the money in my opinion. In fact tell you what, I would pay for you too.

The monarchy has little functional role but is a tourist magnet and national icon. I worked out a couple of years ago that taxpayers contribute about 50p each to the monarchy each year and the injection the economy recieves through tourism would far outweigh this.
A more pressing issue is the aristocracy as a whole. Thank God for House of Lords reform, it was too long coming.

well.... maybe you would find a more suitable 'modern' country that will suit your needs?
The Monarchy is the symbol of this country, a country envied by others....
So to call the monarchy an oppression, is bull s@*t in itself, why else will people from other countries risk death trying to cross the border to get to this GREAT BRITAIN?

I would be more interested in your statement if it was presented as an opinion instead of supposed fact. You seem to be struggling with your spelling and you don't even have the decency to give Her Majesty the capital letters required in British English for "The Queen".
Vivat Elizabetha Regina (here's hoping your Latin is a little more up to scratch)
