I used to buy dvds on Amazon.com (USA) and I just went to Argos and bought their cheapest dvd player for £17.89 it plays every region, so I suggest you do that for the next time, it's worth having if you are going to be watching a lot of them, plus if you buy region 1 dvd's second hand on Amazon.co.uk they are a lot cheaper!!

Have a look at this site, it has hacks for loads and loads of DVD players to make them either Multi region or to play another regions discs, but then you will need to convert back to region 2

is it a dvd from a store or a homemade dvd? if its homemade it sounds like it wasn't finalized or your dvd player doesn't play multi-format dvds.
