Go to broadband genie website it tells you what speed your getting the distance from the telephone exchange and what speed you should be getting.

Right on the little monitors on the task bar and click status. If you have bubble help running just place cursor over it and it will pop up.

Phone up the provider - they will be able to tell you. If it is slow you can upgrade. You can also ask them to send a boost down the line to clear any gremlins if it is slow for no reason. I am with Virgin (used to be Telewest) and they do this while you wait.

it usually runs at 1/10th of your proper speed. 1mbit should give you a constant download speed of 100kb/s, but it depends on your service provider and the server you download off. i'm 1mbit and i usually download at 225kb/s.
