You should be able to do what you will with your own property, as long as it does not look too horrible and as long as it is not a listed historical building.

Almost no one has ever been able to do what they wanted with their property. There have been zoning laws and restrictions since property ownership became commonplace for the average person. They are granted that right by laws passed by communities. Everyone says they should be able to do what they like, but when your neighbour is hanging dead animals in his back garden, everyone wants something done about it. Listed buildings have even more restrictions, but you knew that when you bought it. It's part of living in a "civilised" society, whatever that has come to mean.

You might own your property but if it is of significance to the historical well being of our country then you have to acknowledge that.
It is annoying when you own a listed property and have to seek permission to make alterations to it but that's the way it is.

If you've been given a listing for any property that you own, I believe you can turn it down or return it.

I guessing you are talking about either zoning or code violations. These are in place to protect safety, property value and quality of life.

If you are saying your Realtor is saying to change stuff, it is to help you sell.

Grow up and do what you are told.
