I just bought a couple of pair of "Atlas Gloves". They are wonderful for almost anything. They are great for pulling weeds and gardening as you can feel through them. I got them for $5 at a little shop where I get my small engines worked. Someone also told me that Target has them for slightly more. I can even open my knife blade with them on, something I can't do with any other work glove. And no, I have no financial interest in the company.

Those cotton ones don't feel good to me either.
I use leather gloves. I've found nice goat skin gloves that fit well work best for me. They need to fit well.
Usually I don't have my gloves on. Most weeds are not so bad. But the bad ones need good puncture proof leather.

get some rubber gloves and double glove them.
Also you'd like something that can't be bitten through.. by spiders, ticks, etc.
I have some very fine calves leather gloves that are well worn in and I can trust them, they can't be penetrated and I can also make sure that I am feeling what I feel when weeding, or planting.

For the very few times I wear gloves I use three different types, for different jobs . Dry work I use pig skin. Light wet work like mixing chemicals I use the light blue nitrile. For heavy wet work or thorns, I use the heavy black nitrile. I get all of mine from a local farm and ranch store. RScott
