as an astrophysics major, i am in whole-hearted support of having reclassified Pluto, just because people were calling it a planet didn't make it one by the definition of a planet. Either we had to change the definition of a planet or oust Pluto from the roster . . . mathematically it was just a hunk of rock orbiting with several larger hunks of rock but when it was named as a planet we didn't know this . . . we thought it had its own orbit like the eight remaining ones . . . people need to get over it -- it has almost no relevance to anything in your life

PS i resent the pencil pusher remark, in the interest of having valid classifications and ways to study and explain what is beyond earth, it is important to be able to revise your previous ideas to form more accurate understanding of the different sorts of bodies in the sun's gravitational field
