ok so when i speed up the car seems not to pass the third gear as i can it not doing anything and the car seems to be struggling to speed up.

You did not state what type of vehicle. So I'm taking a stab in the dark. I would suggest changing your input and output switches located on your transmission.

Sounds like your transmission might be taking a dump.
Take it to a shop.

lol first check your transmission fluid it can cause difficulty with shifting if it still wont shift up take it to a shop :\
