This is a place in Little Italy I read about on BBC. The sign doesn't give a particular language not to order in. His family became US citizens legally.

Anybody can sue anybody for anything. Winning is a different matter. My defense would be that I don't speak any language but English. So how am I supposed to understand and serve a customer who is ordering something and I don't know what they want? Customers have the right to reasonably expect their order to be taken and filled to their satisfaction - if they communicate that order. However, it becomes an unreasonable expectation when they cannot communicate that order in an understandable manner. I live in Korea and when I eat out I certainly don't expect that they are going to understand English everywhere I order. My solution was to learn enough of their language so that I have a reasonable expectation of getting what I ordered - and if I don't get what I thought I was ordering then it is on me not them. Bottom line - Is a restaurant or business supposed to have a staff of linguists standing by to take orders in any language? Give me a break!. .

He should take down the sign and, if anyone orders in a foreign language, say, sorry, nobody here understands any languages other then American. If they persist, he then guesses that, of course, they meant the most expensive item on the menu. He was trying to be polite and avoid stupid problems but it only takes one looney tune with anti-capitalist funding and a greedy lawyer to end a lifetime of honest and hard work. If the courts did their job and threw these nonsense cases out with all costs borne in triplicate by the accuser, things would be so much better. However, when judges are lawyers themselves and have the same polluted mindset, how can they?

I don't know, but the whole form of the human race seems to be changeing since everybody started wearing their a-- on their shoulders. Can't you just picture that? Sitting down would sure be a hoot. Seriously, there are those who are looking for an easy buck and think a business owner is a convienent mark.

He should not get sued. If he wants customers to order in English, so what! Maybe that is all he understands himself.

Anyone can sue for any reason. In this case, though, they won't win. If the employees only speak english, mandating that orders be done in english is not illegal.
