i know you ligaments etc loosen up during pregnancy making the chance of injury more so. there are women out there that run or jog during there whole pregnancy with out any trouble, no i don't think chasing a dog or another child will cause any harm to a baby in the womb, mine are all fine and with other toddlers and small children in the house i am always chasing after someone.

All I know is that I'm 24 weeks pregnant, and it would be really uncomfortable for me to run. So I don't know if it's really a matter of hurting the baby or not, it's just not practical. I don't see why you couldn't run in earlier pregnancy though. You're not going to hurt the baby - he/she is in a nice cushion of amniotic fluid. The girl that did my ultrasound said that she was in two major car accidents while pregnant and her baby turned out just fine. But I do agree with what the person before said...you will prob get more easily winded, and if you are having trouble breathing, your baby isn't getting as much oxygen either. So keep that in consideration too. Good luck!

I'm an avid runner and had this same question for my doctor when I went in for my last appointment. Her explanation ... because you can fall honey. Yet, in the same breath she suggested I switch to yoga ... apparently she has never seen some of the positions they want me to twist into. I got a second oppinion and was told I could run until my second trimester, but after that a brisk walk is about the fastest I should go .. again to due to the fact I could fall.

The only reason pregnant woman are told that they shouldn't run is because we don't have very good balance and we could fall. I still chase my dog and my niece around, i'm just more carefull about how fast i run and where i am while im running. They baby is well protected inside of you and running wont hurt him/her.

Go walking honey! One of the main reasons is not just because you can fall, but by exercising more strenuously (eg running) can leave you feeling puffed or out of breath, and this is restricting the amount of oxygen that is being carried through your bloodstream, and this in turn could distress the baby. Regular exercising during prenancy is important, just make sure you dont overdo it!

You can, early in the pregnancy. When it becomes more and more awkward, it would be a good idea to find less bouncy exercises. The fetus is being carried in a bag of water. Women who have to walk to live - food gathering for example - manage to do it far into pregnancy.

Yeah you can actually harm the baby... because the movement makes it hard for the baby. They can actually run.. but it's extra weight on your back and your instinct tells you not to run.

I would think that a pregnant woman's higher center of gravity could cause falls when running and that wouldn't be too healthy.

It depends upon how far along you are. I have seen pregnant women out jogging all of the time. Ask your ob/gyn that same question and see what he/she says.

its common sense that you don't run!!.. it will either harm the baby's development or worse. so lets say if you run and the baby comes out with a disability, now you may know the cause of it, by doing things your not suppose to like running
