If you live a lot, and love a little then it would make you a selfish person, so you better learn to paddle your own canoe. That's what I think it means. I think you should love alot and get the live life to the fullest, but don't be selfish in doing this.

Whats wrong with: Live a lot, love a lot while paddling your own canoe?
The paddling of the canoe part is guiding your own life, but if you life a lot there is much more to love and more to take ownership for.
Enjoy!!!!

Yes, it keeps YOU in control, if that is what you like. It is counterproductive in all loving relationships though. For example if you have a kid it means to love a lot, adapt your life to another persons needs, let your kid come on your canoe and in order to learn to paddle himself you need to let it paddle your canoe for a while too. (For example I let take over my son in the kitchen so he can learn to bake cakes, which he loves to do. He is 8 and I tell you it is pretty messy, but worth it)
It would also not work in any close relationships like marriage for example. Sure you can live a lot, but still you need to love a lot and you need to arrange yourself with somebody else where you paddle your own canoe to, although you still can be in control of your own canoe.
So this quote makes sense in some cases but is not applicable as a rule of life, at least not in my life. Would probably possible for somebody single without kids.

Somehow , I feel, this quote makes me think that whoever said that was very disappointed , let down and a loner ! It would look as if he left his own canoe to jump into someone else`s only to find that it was a short journey together. And this person had to find his own back again . I think he didnot give his full to the other when he left his and held back.

I feel that all of us have our times when we feel happy , blissful and at peace. For some such times last afew fleeting minutes , to some some hours. We know we long for such moments to last for ever. One prerequisite for some longer lasting happiness is to give up completely and not hold back.

I may be wrong.

My thoughts? Here: of course, I'll paddle MY canoe. Do you want me to paddle yours? Forget it.
BTW, I'm installing a motor on my canoe.

Love life, do not dwell on material possessions, and follow your own path in life (We are all unique and have our own gifts/talents that we can share with not only ourselves but with others).

Live life to the fullest. and it is great to be in love but you don't need someone else to validate who you are you can rely on yourself to get things done.

The first and third phrases are wonderful. However, I dont think loving a little is ever enough. That's why we have the problems we have in the world. We need more love - not a little love. Pax - C
