I would like to make very realistiic doll-size kimonos (one male and one female). Can anyone suggest a site that explains in detail how to make kimonos for both sexes?

I'm not sure what size doll you're sewing for, but these patterns are for BJD (ball jointed dolls). They're either 60cm or 45 cm tall (2 types). Sd = 60cm and MSD = 45 cm, just for reference. The first site is a site of free patters for kimono as well as other types of clothing. It's a good starting place for the actual pattern. To make it realistic in terms of accessories and stuff, the only thing I can think of is to look for historical references, because I don't know much about for real kimonos. Just the americanized pretty ones. And the pattern works. We've used it to make doll komonos.

The second link is for a forums for BJDs. You'll have to register to see it, but registration is free and there's tons of advice on sewing and adapting patterns that will apply to any doll you want to sew for. The link I specifically included is a list of free patterns that happen to be people's favorites. And if they're favorites, then you know that they're good ones, right?

Good luck and have fun!
