I think so operational definitions are substituted as variables within a hypothesis as far as I can tell you might check the references below they are complicated

a research hypothesis is what u think is going to happen in the experiment. more specifically, it makes a prediction on the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable. a good example of a research hypothesis would be "watching violence on tv leads to increased aggression in children" (IV in this case is violent tv shows, and the DV is the measure of aggression in children)
