it's people people sterotype too much.
i wrote an article about it for my high school news paper
it kinda explains why
i had a list of sterotypes for the beginning intro but my teacher told me to take it off cause it was too long
sorry that my article is crappy.
Children learn how to stereotype at a very young age. 20/20 conducted experiments with groups of children who were shown pictures of an Arab man and an Asian man. They were asked which of the two men they liked better. For every experiment, the majority of the children preferred the Asian man. In the two pictures, both men were smiling; most children preferred the "Chinese guy," and one child said it was because "he look[ed] nicer and [had] a smile on." As for the Arab man, one child said, "I think he's weird," and other comments on what they believed to be the personality of the man.
Lexie F__, sophomore, says, "Stereotypes are common issue, not only in high school, but in life. Unfortunately, the topic is taken lightly. I believe that words are just as hurtful as being hit or kicked…Nowadays, I can just walk down the halls and hear kids talking bad about their friends and people they don't know. It's a sad, but very common, thing." People have been stereotyping since the beginning of time, and some of the stereotyping was due to predicting if the other person was a friend or an enemy. But now, people should know to judge others by their actions rather than the way they look.
Later, the children were shown a picture of a white man and a black man. Some children mentioned that the black man looked mean, referred to him as one of FBI's Most Wanted, or that he looked like a basketball player. When asked what they thought of the white man, the children that he lookd nice. They were then asked which of the two they believed was a criminal, and which they believed to be a teacher. Most of the children indicated that the white man was the teacher. But the truth was, the white man was Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma city bomber, and that the black man was Roland Fryer, a Harvard University professor.
A test made by Harvard University that measures racial bias was taken by students at Pace University. The results showed biases against working women, blacks, Arabs, the elderly, and homosexual. There was even bias towards senior citizens, from the elderly themselves. And the results showed that almost half the blacks who took the test showed biases against blacks. Although the test deals with what people are subconsciously thinking, this does not necessarily affect the way a person behaves.
There was a test that thousands of Americans took which involved a picture that would flash across the scene. A person would be holding something that is safe (such as a wallet or cellular phone), or something lethal (such as a gun or a knife), and the people, even African Americans, were told to "shoot" if the person was dangerous. The results showed that people shot much quicker if the person was black than if they were white.
Nick T___, junior, believes that "Stereotypes are bad and cause people to worry about what people are thinking about them." People should not make comments about each other based on a stereotype or be concerned that others are judging of them because of their appearance. Instead, they should be "judged by the content of their character" as said by Martin Luther King Jr.

Not all people are racist. Some people are prejudiced and some people like to think they are superior but they do not realise that they are being petty by behaving like that. Not everyone is the same but the problem lies in some people not accepting everyone as they are. If all of us were the same, the world would be a boring place, don't you agree?

It's usually learned behaviour. Usually, racist people have racist parents, who also had racist parents. Things like war or terrorism can lead to racism against the "enemy." Most of the time, the racist people really have no idea how people of other races live or think or feel. If they would just open up their mind and see how they live, they would see that they are just the same as them. But they are closed-minded and usually refuse to accept anything that could prove them wrong.

Yes people are similar in our physicality but also are very different with different thoughts and how things should be, which is why racism is still a major factor in our everyday life.
I hate racism too but some love it so they could feel better about themselves by making their race superior. I'd say it gives them a sense of living.
Ignorance is a bliss for them but not for those who they terrorize.

Eh sometimes people are just a-holes. Not everyone is racist, but I know what you're talking about. I live in a small town in Montana and I'm one of the only colored people here lol. I get a lot of looks from time to time but just shrug it off or flip them off. Don't stress out over this, people have been ignorant since the beginning of time! :)

Reasons? insecurities, projection of self loathing, reactionary,
fear, inferiority complexes, media propaganda, justified bad interactions. these are some of the reasons that people have for hating/disliking people of other races, cultures and religions, but when it comes down to it it is the same thing that ruins everything for everyone.
The ego.
the ego is sin and the ego is the devil.
Self serving, self aggrandizing, self.
It divides and us from the whole (G-D) and attempts to conquer.
Even in racist groups (KKK, skinheads, NSWPP) it works to divide them from themselves
When self is #1 there is nothing else
there is no one else.
Anything that brings instability to the ego
must be attacked.
It is the enemy of ourselves
and the enemy of our Creator.
This is why people are racist
and just about any other "IST"
you can think of.
(The above racial groups cited are in fact all caucasian based groups due to my lack of familiarity with any other actual racist non-Anglo based groups. This is not meant to infer in any way, that ALL white people are racist.)

Sometimes people are racist because they were raised that way, but I think most people become racist because of the human experience. It is really hard not to form prejudices (which is very different from being racist) when throughout your life you see repeated evidence of continued trends of behavior in one ethnic group.

I think about this all of the time. It's such a waste of energy if you really think about it. We just have too many ignorant people in the world that tend to spread their ignorance. Plus I think it has a lot to do with fear of accepting someone who is different from them.
