Music boxes represent significant moments in my life.
The first fight I witnessed between my mother and father when I was three, ended with my music box being smashed.
My father glued it back together for me but never found the little ceramic flame that sat atop the third candle in the candelabra. (it was a princess dressed in pink playing a piano..you guessed it ...with a candelabra on it)
When my parents divorced a few years later I wanted to vent so I blamed my dad for breaking the music box and huffed at him that he MUST buy me a new one to make it all better.
He did....
My sister venting her pain, smashed my new music box...on purpose.
I have a little bit of emotional distress when I see a music box now that I think about it....my daughter was given one for Christmas two years ago....I gave it to the Salvation Army cause I didn't like it.....I rationalized that it was to cheesy...(three cartoon type angels sharing a halo)
I want to be a music box! I want the wounds healed...the pieces glued with forgiveness....
The smashed music boxes of my life, never once stopped working though...........
with all their scars, the music never stopped.......
Grandfather clocks don't hold the same drama for me, and we never had one in our family......I have no connection to them and I am and never will be a Grandfather........
Thanks for the question....you blessed me..=)

Music Box is a nostalgic item. A clock is just another way to track the day as man sees fit. We do not need a clock to see where the sun is.

I'd rather be myself, so I guess I have to go with grandfather clock. My life-seconds are still numbering as I stand in the hall. I never really was one of the windup little music boxes with less than one octave and only part of one tune plinking away. At my best I was always one of the grand ones with the large disks or folding strips that could be changed that played melodies and harmonies in several different voices and keys. I'd have one of these installed in the striker mechanism of my clock so I'd have the best of both four times an hour.

A grandfather clock has wisdom but is always placed in a corner just like grandfather and doesn't get the respect it deserves for its steady rhythm and wisdom.
So, a music box. Yes. To be place on a shelf where all can enjoy the beauty of the music as it applies to the one who places me on a pedastal.
It's always better to be on a pedastal than in a corner. Even if it doesn't always seem fair.

I would rather be the grandfather clock. The music box may be able to make muysic; but, it's the grandfather clock that has the wisdom to appreciate the music made.

Music Box. Do I really have to say why?
Well...I will.
Because music is the first and last word for love.
And there is nothing without love.
Music fills your soul with beauty and divinty.
And life as a matter of fact echos with music.
So...yes...I'd be a music box.
Plus..time just doesn't work for me. It has never really been on my side.
And time...aka..Grandfather clock...is definately more nostalgic.
Full of melancholy time is.
Stare at the hands as they move around numbers. Then you can't really stop time. It's gonna come sooner or later.

The word 'grandfather' itself is grand , wisdom and cherished. It reminded me of my grandfather's clock, whenever my family look at it, we feel proud and it brings back old memories of my grandfather who came alone to a foreign country and the hardship he has gone through to build a strong foundation for his coming generations.
If I was this clock, I know I would be cherished, treasured and remembered for generations, and the worth of it is priceless. And as the time goes by, it will be truly indispensable.
It sounds old but nothing could beat an antique... :)

I would like to be a Music Box, because I am a Happy person by nature, and I have always liked to hear music, when I do my chores. When I have a problem that does not let me concentrate, I usually turn on the Radio, because the Music, makes me relax and I am able to resolve whatever it is that was bothering me.
