I'd say buy a new one, keep the old one. Look for the advantages! The RUBS (rich urban bikers) have created a glut of Harleys sitting in their garages with low miles just waiting for someone to pick up and put to use for a greatly reduced price. I also am a dinosaur and am looking forward to my first bagger, I'm old enough now and the wife is complaining the softail is beating her up. Once I get my Jeep paid off I'll be shopping for one of those UltrClassics that someone gotten spooked of and wants to sell. So I'll make room in the shop for it along with the softail and Shovelhead FXWG.
Another advantage, when was the last time you got rousted out on your bike. The law is saying "so many bikes, so little time......I give up!!!" With so many bikes you really have to be trying to be picked out and you'd have to have flanders bars and straight pipes to get rousted for the usual reasons.
The patch wearers also have come to appreciate it as effective camouflage.
There's plenty of road and it ain't no thing to me.....I can get around them!!

I don't believe I've ever seen a Harley more than a year old that was still stock. I don't know about you but I Kept my old one & change everything around every year or so & have shelves full of parts. if I'm not planning any trips for a while I run a solo seat ,drag bars & pipes and put on a 51 tooth sprocket & cheater slick for grudge night at the strip (I also upgrade the engine in the winter) if I'm planning a trip I put on a windshield , my pull back bars & mirrors , a big seat with back rest , saddle bags & my road tire with 46 tooth sprocket (80 mph @3k rpm) I also keep a stock old beater to ride if something comes up while my good ones up on the lift. it's the same year so I can just change the plates around & the wheels if I bend 1 or get a flat. I'm also a dinosaur, the first real bike I had was a$35 wla 45 with a bad 2nd gear & a shakey front end. I went through several jap & brit bikes through the years including 4 new ones but they never had any personality just something to ride while I was busy working & raising kids. now I've got time but no extra money so I ride 25 yr. old Harleys . with all the after market suppliers around now + a lathe & a milling machine you can make any old bike faster than the new ones and really one of a kind. so instead of a new one I would recommend two old ones with money left over for custom parts.

I don't ride to rebel, to be cool, to impress or be individualistic. I ride because I love it, and I ride HD because it's my favorite feeling in the world. I ride seriously and so does everyone I know; there are no poseurs here.
You should do whatever you feel like doing; it's totally up to you. I don't understand the motivation behind your question.

Was you riding when Honda come out with that red 50cc step through with the gray floorboard up fairings? God that was some serious riding then. We used to tear up some road on those things.

Trade in your old bike and get a really old 50s era H-D with the kickstarter. "Chop" it to make it even more rebellious.

Just because it's new doesn't mean you can't ride it.
I just had my 1st annual safety inspection yesterday. When the mechanic was recording the mileage, he said "You must live on this thing".
