Juan Pierre is great when it comes to stealing bases, but does his talent at bat and at stealing make up for his weak arm and series mindless mess ups recently at center?

He generally is a very good outfielder despite having a bad arm, but I think his offensive play does make up for it. He is alot like Johhny Damon in this way.

"Talent at bat"?

Pierre AVG/OBP/SLG
2007 to date -- .277/.309/.325
2006 -- .292/.330/.388
2005 -- .276/.326/.354
2004 -- .326/.374/.407

That 2004 season was three years ago, and it wasn't all that anyway, and these are his late 20s, typically the peak ages for hitters.

There's another metric known as "net steals" which factors stolen bases against the price of them -- caught steals -- but I'm not in the mood to really beat up Pierre tonight. Let's just say that he's not being as much help as many think.

When the Rockies got rid of him, everyone wondered why. No arm, constant mistakes, no power. He could hit over 300, but rarely even walked. Just about the only personnel move the Rockies got right when they let someone go.

I don't really think he's talanted at bat. No power, not an especially good on base percentage. 63rd best OBP in the NL last year, and 70th this year.
