You can't be serious in your argument! Most truly poor people are not running around racking up huge credit card bills or falling behind on morgages. That's middle class problems. Poor people are renting homes because they cannot afford or have the credit to buy a home. People are blaming Bush for the increase in poverty because he is ending funding to programs that help poor people and diverting those fund to build up Iraq when America is in shambles

The government is in debt approximately seven trillion dollars. That's $7,000,000,000,000.00
Divided by our population, that's about $80,000 per family.
Can you imagine what home mortgage rates would be if there were seven trillion more dollars available to borrow?
If there were no National Debt, interest rates on home mortgages would probably be around three percent.
That means on a $150,000 mortgage, monthly payments would be around $600 instead of $900.
The government wouldn't have to regulate interest rates to improve conditions for us all, just pay their debts like the rest of us have to do.
So, congratulations Congress on your $4,400 per year pay raise, which adds another 2 million per year to the debt you've already rung up.

Because it is not their man getting bashed. Clinton used to be "the enemy", so it used to be great to bash him. But Bush - bashing him is like capturing fish in a barrel. The guy is an fool, and bashing him is arbitrary to the intellectually challenged (or the dull, in politically wrong phrases). Basically, they're hypocrits.

Republican- Democrat; what's the difference? They both serve the same master-greed. When it comes to the poor, the only time they're needed by any politician is during the next election. After that, it's business as usual. Apathy is its own reward for most people.
When the cess pool is comfortable and existence tolerable, what incentive is there to rise to the challenge? None.

Bush is hated for other things he's done (And he deserves it!). I don't recall Bush trying to do anything to fight poverty (unless you consider his handling of New Orleans as a "plan" to reduce the numbers of poor). But, so far Bush screwed up every issue he touched, so I really do not want to see what he'd do to address this problem.
Having said that, I personally do not believe that poor need to be helped (helped as given handouts). Unless they have some heath issues, people are poor only because of their lazyness and stupidity and if it hurts, it's only fair.
On the other hand, there is an infinity of things that the government could have done to make life easier for many people, including poor. The $700B wasted in Iraq could have been used to improve education (direct effect on poverty), national debt reduction (less taxes in the future for everybody, including the poor), investment in new technologies (historically huge payoffs), infrastructure etc., etc., etc.

EVERYBODY in America is getting RICHER. It's just that the poor are getting richer more slowly than the rich are getting richer.
My brother & his family are too poor to have credit cards, but they wear new - not used - clothes. They are not having trouble getting food on the table - In fact they are all very overweight. They even have the new technology in thier homes that I would have never dreamed of having as a child. They have a satellite TV & DVD players in every room.
I grew up on the low side of middle-class, but they live better than I did as a child even though they are about as poor as you can get!

another reason why we are gettin even more poorer is the fact that those idiots in DC (both parties) are just that. IDIOTS.
Land of the free ? Sure, but it sure is expensive, especially when those basta**s in DC have 'carte blanc' with our hard earned tax dollars.
