Ok, here is the short version:
Thursday night I shaved my public hairs. Friday, after work, I drove myself to the clinic. The surgery took 15 min. I chatted with the nurse and the doctor the whole time. I rested for about 10 min, then went to my car. I drove to Walgreens, then to Blockbuster video. I think it was about an hour before, I went home, and rested. I think we ordered pizza that night. Saturday, and Sunday, I sat around watching video with my ice pack. I think I barbecued chicken in Sunday, and played backgammon, but that is about it.
Monday I was back to work (I was a security guard).
I never took any pain killer except for aspirin. I was back to having sex by the next weekend. Sure I walked slow for the first three days. I didn’t lift anything heavier than a handful of video tapes, and my brief case.
That was it. Nothing to it. I never had any significant pain. I have no scar. That was 20 years ago. That was the greatest 22nd birthday gift ever.

I'm not a man, but I can tell you about my husband's experience (since we've discussed it in GREAT detail, and he's sitting right here). He had it done on a Friday afternoon. I went for a short walk and when I came back (less than an hour later) he was done and dressed and waiting for me - just a little bit loopy. He spent the weekend with an ice pack on his lap, and he took a few Advil, but other than that he was fine and back at work (desk job, not strenuous) on Monday. He's never had a bit of trouble or discomfort after that first day, and I can't even FIND the scar.
He says the pain wasn't bad at all - more of a dull ache than anything, and the ice and Advil took care of most of it.

My husband had a vasectomy about 4 years ago. It was an out patient procedure done on a Friday, so he could return to work on Monday. At the time he was an A/C repairman, so he climbed ladders alot and did alot of squatting. I had to drive him to and from the appointment. He was fine all weekend, he just laid around with an ice pack. Took a few pain killers and slept alot. He had to do 2 sperm samples to make sure all the little guys were out of his fluid. One at 2 weeks post surgery and one at 6 weeks. Just to be certain. The surgery is real simple. Our insurance paid for the whole thing. He only has a little tiny scar. Our sex life is great. We don't have to worry about unwanted pregnancies or pulling out. Its wonderful. I hope this info helps. Best of Luck with the procedure.

my husband had one. I was there the whole time it was being done he told me everything that went on in the room. The doc joked with him while doing the procedure. it only took an half hour. Here where we live it is only done on fridays so the men can recover without taking off of work. He was not in that much pain. He just had to have an ice pack just for a little while but he was able to still move but no sex he was not conforable enough. He said the pain feeling was more like numbness. he was back to work in the next to days. he had saturday sunday. he was back to work on monday. He did not have sex until we both knew he was clear which all you do to do that is take a sample to the docs and you have to do this twice. The doctor will tell you or not. It will depend on your husband when you guys have sex again but i assure you it wont be too long of a wait.
if you want to know what his occupation is he is outside mainence he cuts grass and other work outside.

I had mine at least 20 years ago,out patient on a Fri. A little pain in the testicles like pulling on them, but thats all. Layed on the couch all weekend. Probably should have been moving around Sun. I think I would have felt better at work Mon. Don't remember how long we refrained from sex, maybe a week. All in all it was not bad and It was well worth it.

I would say yes, but it is now a moot point. With our second (and last) child, my wife got her tubes tied since they had her opened up for the C section anyway. Funny story though about a friend who got one done. He got the big snip, was released that day and went home. After his wife left for work he decided to go grocery shopping. He had no problems at the store, and the bag boy loaded the bags into his car for him. When he was unloading them at home though, he lifted too much and popped the stitches. He immediately passed out in his driveway. His doofus neighbor was mowing the lawn, and saw him laying there, and just thought he was looking under the car. An hour later, when he was still laying there, the guy finally came over to check on him. By then his giggle berries were swollen to the size of grapefruits. Two surgeries down there in one day! We wanted to feel bad for him, but hey it was too funny the way he told it to us. NEVER tell your army buddies something so embarrassing. Especially if it involves the berries swelling up like that!

We have had three children too.
Three of my friends and I went to see Dr K for a group discount one week 14 years ago. I went second. It was day surgery at his clinic.... on Friday afternoon. A small room the size of a walk in robe.. I dropped my dacks and lay on the examination bench... a nurse came in and jammed some morphine into my shoulder. Shortly afterwards Dr K arrived on the scene. He explained what he was to do and asked if I was certain... I agreed. He pulled out a needle and filled it with local aneasthetic. He grabbed hold my scrotum and held one testicle.. he said" you will feel a prick" (which I thuoght was funny cause he was feeling one too) and he injected my left testicle with local. It hurt. A lot. A whole lot. It was a big needle. I clenched my teeth and started to sweat. He then said "one more". .. I was afraid he might say that. I was ready to leave right there and then but when some dude has your testicles in one hand and sharp objects in another it isn't a good idea to start squirming, so I held my brave face on and said... "I am glad I don't have three of them" .... he jabbed the right testicle with the needle.. right into it.. and injected the local aneasthetic... I shut my eyes.... I tried to think of something else but the pain was pretty intense... I was glad that I had morphine first but was wishing I had opted for a general aneasthetic... He got out his scalpal and he made an incision in the shape of the letter "K" (which I discovered later - he tagged me)... I could feel very little at this point.. just a bit damp (a tiny little bit of blood). He did the work, tied some knots and stitched me back up. The whole experience took 20 minutes. I paid the receptionist and my wife drove me home. I sat in the car knees up for 45 minutes. When we got home I went to bed and slept knees up. I stayed that way for 3 days... in bed.. knees up.. Returned to work on Tuesday Morning. The bruising had substantially subsided after 5 days. After a month I had a sperm count... still some wrigglers... after 2 months they were all gone.
My friends and I compared stories.... we each have the initials "K" inscribed on our scrotums. Who said Dr's don't have a sense of humour?
BTW... it sounds horrible.. and it was... but it was worth it. We could never afford to feed a 4th teenager.

My Dad, brother-in-law, uncle, and my husbands best friend have all had it done and none of them say that it is horrible. They were back to work within 1-3 days with minimal soreness.
