When did he start taking steroids? If you say that he started because he was upset with Sosa and MacGwire getting all the press, that would put him starting steroids in 1999. Look at his stats up to that point, average them out over the next 8 years , and you still have one of the best ever, if not the best.

ok i did not read the other answers but if you look at it the way i do when he played in pit he was still awesome but say what you want steroids may allow him to hit the ball farther but it does not help hand eye coordination he is still probally in the top three at least think about it before you get mad at me after he hit 73 homers the next year he hit 360+- give or take look at the average say what you will he is still the best player at least since 1955 and yes that was the year before mantle and maris trust me look at the numbers not the person oh and ajn4664_ksu you have made the most remarkable answer i think i have ever seen you are a true fan thank youand i do not know how many people actually read the other answers but once again steroids do not help HAND EYE CORDNATION before but no one wants to look at that and it is mainly because he does not like the media and he is not alone i hate them too now i am not saying that he is the best but he has to be in the conversation when it comes to the best 7 mvps compared to what three by the next closest guy but if anyone wants to voice thier opinion message me at jamesall32 thank you

No. Go back and look at the numbers before he started juicing. He never hit more than 34 HR in his first 7 yeasr when he was a thinly built speedy outfielder. then in 93 after he started on the juice he never hit less than that except for 1 year when he was injured and still hit 33! He is a product of Baseball's disregard for itself in an attempt to get the fans back after the strike. They ignored the cheaters to get the fans back to the game. The long ball is sexy. Why do you think Ruth's 60n stood from 1927 til 1961? Then all of a sudden in the 1990's Sosa goes over 60 three times, McGwire hits over 70, bonds hits 73. Please! The numbers are a joke and an affront to players who didn't cheat. Sad really. By the way, there is no question who the greatest baseball player of alltime is and that's Ruth.

There is no proof that Bonds ever did steroids, like there is no proof that Hank Aaron never did any drugs, remember that the 60's and 70's were the biggest era for drugs!!
Yes, I think Bonds is right up there with the greatest,if not the greatest of all time!!
And if they pitched to him, the 2500 times they walked him, at a .300 avg. that's about 830 more hits, and that would be about 75 more home runs, putting him over 800 Home runs!!
Yeah he is the greatest!!!!

While steroids do not improve hand to eye coordination they do improve the following:

Aids in the addition of muscle mass
Decreases the time muscles need to recover from stress and strain.

These two benefits of steroids assist the ballplayer by allowing what normally would have been routine flyouts to be turned into home runs or base hits off the wall (increased muscle mass) and since muscles repair themselves quicker the normal dings that will affect the players swing or cause him to miss time playing are no longer prevalent.

I do not know when Bonds started taking steroids, but to me it is a big deal, so I can vote him to be a top player of all time. Besides, he is not even a lifetime .300 hitter.

My vote for best ever is Willie Mays, regardless of what Bonds took or didn't take. He was better defensively and just as good at the plate as Bonds. If Willie was playing today he would probably be the home run champ instead. The ballparks are smaller and the pitching isn't as good as it was in Mays day. As great as Barry is, I'd put him in second place even with the stats he has...

he is in the top 5 but not the best there are better yet to come and arod and pujols are two of them Soriano had the potential but he strikes out too much and beltran is not like he used to be when he was with KC so yes bonds at this point in his career but he will not be thought as the best when people as a whole think of greats such as ted williams aaron mays dimaggio ruth gehrig clemente

clemente was the all around greatest player runs knocks it around and had a great personality unlike bonds who can't stand the spot light on anyone else especially sosa and mcgwire in 98'

The greatest of all time what?
(1) Jerk? If not... he'd run a close race to whom ever is first.
(2) Egotistical Prick? No race for this one.
(3) Pompous @ss.
(4) Conceded and self-centered.
(5) This is too easy - forget it.

The fact that he did take steroids really voids his career really. Yes statistically, he was good, but do you really want to call a player who cheated because he wants attention "greatest of all-time"?

Yes, he COULD have been. His insane use of steroids, insane racism (one of the few blacks for whom this term applies in all it's meanings), and his horrible example to kids and people in general means that he will always have a * by his name, even as a human being.
