Someone once told me that if someone used a coffin for a wake then was cremated the coffin was just tossed out because it was never to be used by another person

I think that someone was funning you. People who are cremated are burned in coffins There are regions where coffins are rented and then reused (usually with a change of liner) like New Orleans, if I recall correctly.
