I'm driving from Florida to Iowa in a Durango, pulling a U-Haul trailer and my digital mileage has dropped from around 400 miles to a tank to 275, Ive been driving with the Cruise on a lot and just wondered if I would get better mileage with it off.

cruise control will not actualy effect your fuel economy, all that is does is hold and adjust the trottle opening to maintain set speed depending on changine variables. if you hit a hill, the cpu pulls the trottle open, if you sart to go doen hill, the cpu lets it close a little, if the ac cycles on or off the cpu will adjust the throttle accordingly, but this by itself will not effect the amount of fuel used. if it was you making the adjustments with your foot, the fuel curve would come very close to the same use.

I believe on long-distance driving, *most cruise controls will be better. I've noticed that my Jeep won't feather the gas as well, and drop down a gear going up hill, but I can make it maintain speed without doing that. So I might have a better shot at better fuel mileage if it's hilly, with my Jeep Cherokee. But usually, I think on long trips, cruise is better. Circumstances vary, so this isn't chiseled in stone.
