Populist - a synonym for a paleo-conservative (also called a paleo-con); refers to somebody who advocates social conservatism, protectionism, anti-immigration policies, and is usually against war; Pat Buchanan is a good example
Centrist - Somebody who takes no position on anything. Basically a swing voter who votes for whomever is the best debator; can also refer to a politician who is all rhetoric and no substance; a good example of a centrist is Ségolène Royal, the loser in the 2nd round of the recent French presidential election
Neo-Con - Somebody who is pro-immigration, pro-war, and spews rhetoric about being for free markets, while actually being for the welfare state; George W. Bush is a good example, though Dick Cheney is more pure
Libertarian - Somebody who actually would implement the rhetoric that the Republicans talk about. The United States was founded by libertarians, such as Thomas Jefferson. There are 2 kinds of libertarians. AnarchoCapitalists believe that government is unnecessary and that the free market can provide everything better than the government, including protection services. Minarchists support a government limited merely to defense of the inalienable rights to life, liberty, and property. Objectivists, people who follow the philosophy of novelist and philosopher Ayn Rand, are often confused with libertarians, even though they are not (they are similar, but Objectivism is not libertarianism, nor is libertarianism Objectivism). Libertarians may be Socially Liberal or Socially Conservative, but they don't believe in using force to impose their social beliefs on others. Libertarianism at its core advocates not initiating force against other people or their property, though retaliatory force is perfectly justified. While many advocates of war in the Middle East claim to be libertarian, true libertarians are opposed to aggressive war as it leads to big government and they regard aggressive war as equivalent to murder.; Ron Paul is probably the best known libertarian, though he isn't exactly perfect. Murray Rothbard is probably a much better example, even though he is not as well known.
Marxist - Somebody who believes in the ideas of Karl Marx, author of the Communist Manifesto (in which he laid out what is known as Social Democracy or liberalism, intending it as a transition to Communism) and Das Kapital (in which he laid out a different blueprint for Communism that advocated revolution to achieve it). Marxism is absolutely discredited these days, as the Soviet Union was a Marxist-Leninist country and it completely collapsed. China has abandoned its particular form of Communism and has adopted a free market, though they have yet to grant civil liberties.;prominent Marxists include Karl Marx, V.I. Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Fidel Castro, Ho Che Min, Che Guevera, Hugo Chavez etc.

Populist - Whatever the "people" want is fine, as long as I get to lead the parade.
Centrist - See Populist
Neo-Con - A political boogeyman, sometimes used to accuse someone of being a Nazi, sometimes a Globalist, sometimes a stooge of Big Business, sometimes an Anarchist.
Libertarian - Legitimate governments exist to protect individuals from the initiation of force, from other individuals, businesses, and government. Legitimate governments have only those powers that are delegable, and have been delegated. Theft of property is not one of these.
Marxist - Legitimate people exist to serve the government in whatever suits government's fancy. All property belongs to the government.
